Whether you’re looking for a place to cool off on hot summer days, or want to take your kids out for a fun family day out, Hong Kong has plenty of fantastic options when it comes to public swimming pools. From luxury hotels to more affordable neighbourhood facilities, here are some of the best spots for you and the family to enjoy a swim in the city this year.
Top-of-the-range rooftop pools in the city
A few of the best hotel roof tops around the city feature a luxurious pool to soak up the sun and tan under. One such rooftop is the gorgeous pool at Cordis, which boasts a 20-metre heated rooftop pool with a Jacuzzi and stunning views of the city skyline. Guests can also enjoy drinks at the Splash Bar until 11pm daily, which is a great way to relax after a long day in the city.
Moroccan-inspired pool at Eaton HK
When it comes to rooftop swimming pools in Hong Kong, few can compare to the ones at Eaton HK. This hotel has a gorgeous Moroccan-inspired pool with a ceiling-mounted LED screen and outdoor whirlpool, which will give you the ultimate relaxation experience. You can even book a massage or facial treatment at the hotel’s luxurious spa after a dip in the pool.
Another option is to head out to Sha Tin to check out the Ma On Shan swimming complex, which boasts a series of water slides – including Hong Kong’s fastest slide, which is 9 metres high. For families, there’s also an area designed for toddlers and a kid’s water park with buckets, sprayers and floor fountains.
Other great places to have a splash in the sun are Hong Kong Gold Coast Hotel (which has two palm-fringed swimming pools) and Auberge Discovery Bay, which also has an aquatic play centre for children. Both have water slides for the young and old, so they’re ideal spots to take the whole family on a fun staycation!
Harbour Grand’s outdoor pool is another great option for enjoying a dip under the Hong Kong sun. The exposed glass side provides a fantastic view of the city, while the stunning design makes this pool an immersive experience.
There’s also the Kerry Hotel, which has a 25-metre outdoor pool overlooking Victoria Harbour, and the W hotel in Hung Hom. This hotel has a gorgeous infinity pool that was once home to some of the raucous pool parties in town.
What’s more, there are many other hotels in the New Territories with child-friendly pool facilities. The Gold Coast Hotel in Castle Peak Bay and the Auberge Discovery Bay are both located on the marina and offer their guests access to their leisure and toddler pools.
LCSD’s public swimming pools
The Leisure and Cultural Services Department manages all public swimming pools in Hong Kong, which are free to use for anyone who is a member of the local community. There are 44 pools across the city – 9 in Hong Kong Island, 13 in Kowloon and 22 in the New Territories. There are fixed admission prices at these public swimming pools, with weekday rates at HK$17 and weekends at HK$19, with concessionary or free prices available for disabled people, seniors and children aged below three years.
