The HK Prize – The Future of Science and Technology in Hong Kong
The hk prize is an annual award given to individuals or teams for scientific and technological innovation in Hong Kong. It is the first of its kind to recognise the value and importance of scientific and technological innovations in Hong Kong. The prizes are awarded in the fields of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Life and Health, New Materials and New Energy, and Advanced Manufacturing. Only a maximum of five persons or teams will be rewarded per year.
The prize will be presented to the winning team on October 14 at a ceremony in Hong Kong Science Park. The ceremony will include a two-day forum featuring Nobel laureate scientists Gregory Winter and Michael Levitt. It will also feature Hong Kong scientists who have won the Future Science Prize in the past, including 2021 Life Science Laureate Yuen Kwok-yung and Physical Science Laureate Luk Kam-biu.
HKJC has been working hard to ensure the fairness of the prize draw. To do this, employees from the security and customer service departments will strictly inspect and test all materials used in the draw – from boxing to transporting them – on a daily basis. The balls used in the draw are also measured, weighed, and examined by X-ray on a regular basis, and the same set of balls cannot be used for two consecutive draws. The HKJC also locks the balls and the draw machine in a safe location following each drawing.
The HK Prize is open to anyone with an idea on how to contribute to Hong Kong’s international development efforts and shape its role on the global stage. The competition is supported by a number of government agencies, private sector entities and philanthropists. Participants can submit their ideas at the HK Prize website, and will receive support from Generocity throughout the process. There is no entry fee, and submissions will be evaluated by a panel of judges. In addition, the winner will receive a grant of up to HK$100,000.
