Hong Kong Pools – The Best Places to Cool Off in the Heat
When the sweltering summer temperatures hit Hong Kong, it’s hard to beat a dip in one of the city’s many hk pools. From water slides for kids to zen jacuzzis, these pools have it all and are a welcome escape from the bustling streets of the city.
The city’s public swimming pools are run by The Leisure and Cultural Services Department, which manages 44 facilities; nine on Hong Kong Island, 13 in Kowloon, and 22 in the New Territories. The pools are often crowded, especially in the summer. But if you know the rules of etiquette, you can have a relaxing and peaceful swim in some of Hong Kong’s best pools.
A pool day pass is a great way to enjoy some time in the cool water without having to book a hotel staycation. Several hotels in the city offer pool day passes, and we’ve rounded up some of our favourites below. Some of these also have other amenities like saunas and steam rooms, so it’s worth checking the specific details before you go.
You can purchase a pool day pass online or from the pool itself. There are different tiers, with the top offering complimentary access to the spa and fitness centre for up to six months. You can also use your membership for discounts on dining and spa packages.
Some of these pools have lockers where you can store your clothes, towels, and other belongings while you swim. The lockers require a coin, which you place in a slot to open them. You can usually find a pool attendant who will give you a $5 coin if you’re missing one. Some of these lockers have a small shop that sells swimming costumes, floats, and pool toys as well.
Located in the heart of Wan Chai, this is a popular pool with families and offers both indoor and outdoor pools. The inside pool has lap lanes while the outside is a free-swim area for swimmers of all ages. It can get a little crowded at times, but swimming etiquette is generally good.
There’s a fab little toddlers’ pool here, and the outdoor pool is perfect for adults who want to splash around with their young ones. It’s also right next to Belcher’s Bay Park, so you can easily burn off the calories you’ve consumed in the water with a bit of a walk afterwards.
It can be a little chilly in the early mornings or evenings, so plan to come at these times to avoid the crowds. It can also be a little chilly at night, so plan to wear a wetsuit. The staff here are incredibly friendly and helpful, making it easy to navigate the pool area.
