The HK Prize – Asia’s Premier High School Contest

The Hong Kong Prize is Asia’s premier high school contest, honoring academic achievements as well as extracurricular participation. Participants take part in community service, skills training and physical challenge activities, and can earn monetary prizes as well as international exposure. This year’s prize theme is Our Changing World, encouraging submissions in a wide range of media that explore aspects of global evolution.

Xi Tianqi, a reporter with a short 1 1/2-year tenure at China Daily, won the first runner-up prize in the Best Young Reporter category of the HK Prize. She says her win inspires aspiring journalists to work hard, and reinforces her belief that the power of writing extends beyond words on the page.

kung fu movie icon Sammo Hung Kam-bo, 72, was given a lifetime achievement award for his contributions to the Hong Kong film industry. The prolific actor, director, producer and martial arts choreographer has starred in more than 200 films over his decades-long career. The award was accepted by his daughter.

Scientific research that has a positive impact on society has been recognised with the hk prize since 2016. The award is open to researchers worldwide and is selected through an impartial process without sponsorship or committee influence. The winner of this prestigious award receives both monetary prize and global recognition for their research.

At the 2020 HK Film Awards, legal drama A Guilty Conscience won the top prize, while police thriller Port of Call took home a series of prizes, including best film, music and action choreography. The late Benny Chan was honoured posthumously with a number of awards for cops-and-robbers actioner Raging Fire, which he directed and co-starred in alongside Donnie Yen. The film also won accolades for its sound, editing and action choreography.
